Our Volunteer Roles:

Haldimand and Norfolk Information Centre Volunteer Roles:

 1. Volunteer Position: Information Counselor

Description of Tasks:

    Would you like to learn more about our community resources? Do you enjoy helping people? If you answered yes to these questions - this volunteer role is for you! Volunteers performing this role will act as part of a volunteer/staff team to answer inquiries at the Information Centre by telephone and in person. The volunteer will be trained to handle inquiries on government and community resources for residents of the Town of Norfolk and the Town of Haldimand.

Skills, Qualifications & Talents Needed for this Position:

    We’re looking for individuals with excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent listening skills who enjoys helping people. Some previous knowledge of community resources in the area would be an asset, but not mandatory. Typing experience also an asset.

Training involved:

    Volunteers will receive 6 weeks of training with a qualified staff person (one, 4hr shift for six weeks). Training will involve learning to use computer database and becoming familiar with various office resources.

Time Commitment:

    Due to the amount of training involved for this position a commitment of one year would be necessary.

2. Volunteer Position: Income Tax Preparer

Description of Tasks:

    Is working with numbers your specialty? This volunteer role is for you! Each year the Information Centre holds income tax clinics across the Town of Norfolk and Town of Haldimand. Volunteers assist seniors and low-income families and individuals complete their income tax returns.

 

Skills, Qualifications & Talents Needed for this Position:

    This volunteer role is suited for individuals who enjoy helping others, enjoys working with numbers and enjoys problem solving.

 

 
 

Training involved:

    Canada Customs and Revenue Agency provide a one-day training workshop. Familiarity with income tax preparation is an asset.

Time Commitment:

    This is a short-term volunteer commitment of 2 weeks. Some additional volunteer time may be required for outreach services following the income tax workshops.

3. Volunteer Position: Brochure Assistant

Description of Tasks:

    Is organization and creativity your specialty? Help the Information Centre keep its resource inventory organized and up-to-date by ordering, recording, maintaining and designing brochure displays. This role also allows you to work with our walk-in clients - help them find the information/brochures they need!

Skills, Qualifications & Talents Needed for this Position:

    This volunteer role suits an individual who enjoys helping and working with others, enjoys organizing and being creative. A pleasant telephone manner is a definite asset to this fun volunteer role.

Training involved:

    Volunteers are asked to attend 2 training days with a qualified staff person (two, 4hr shifts) to learn the brochure maintenance procedure.

Time Commitment:

    The Volunteer is asked to commit to 6 months at the Information Centre in order to become familiarized with our brochure inventory and maintenance

4. Volunteer Position: Newspaper Researcher

Description of Tasks:

    Do you enjoy researching and being up-to-date on current events? We have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! Newspapers and other information sources provide the Information Centre with much information for our service. The newspaper researcher is responsible for locating information on various topics including: local and provincial events, new businesses or organizations, and articles about the Information Centre.

Skills, Qualifications & Talents Needed for this Position:

    This volunteer roles is suited for someone who enjoys researching, organizing and has an interest in current events.

Training involved:

    The volunteer is asked to attend one training day (4hr shift) with a qualified staff person to learn the procedure of this volunteer role.
